There are some applications in which a particular band, or spread, or frequencies need to be filtered from a wider range of mixed signals. Such filter circuits can be designed by combining the properties of low-pass and high-pass into a single filter. The result is called a bandpass filter. There are two cuts off frequencies in such kind of filter, one is from the high pass filter and its high cut off frequency. It will be highest frequency limit of that band. Another cut off is from the low pass filter and known as the lower cut off frequency which decides the low-frequency range of that band.
The resultant circuit will only allow passage of those frequencies that are neither too high nor too low, hence it provides easy passage only to frequencies within a certain range and attenuate the signals which frequencies are outside of this band. For instance, during signal processing, Bandpass filter is used to allow a specific range of required frequencies and to avoid unwanted frequency ranges or components. It tends to reduce filtering noise signal by eliminating frequencies that are not required.
There are many types of band pass filters such as linear and nonlinear, analog, digital, active and passive, etc. are available to use based on the requirement. Some of the BPF-band pass filter design are made using external power as well as active components such as integrated circuits, transistors and hence they are called active band pass filter. Similarly, someother kinds of Bandpassfilters use any kind of power source and passive components like capacitors and inductors and therefore they are called passive Bandpass filter.
- These filters are popularly used in wireless transmitters & receivers.
- It can be used to optimize the S/N ratio (signal-to-noise) as well as the compassion of a receiver.
- BPFs are also widely used in optics such as LIDARS, lasers, etc.
- These filters are best used in audio signal processing, wherever a particular range of sound frequencies is required.
- These filters involve communication systems for choosing a particular signal from a variety of signals.
Most optical manufacturers offer a wide range of optical components to meet your needs such as sapphire optics, silicon optics, bandpass filters and more. They provide application focused optical components and pursues new ways to implement optical technology. There are also off the shelf options available for organizations that want to buy readily available bandpass filters but many users find they need to work with an optic manufacturer to get the filter that meets specifications and requirements. Most of the manufacturers provide shortpass or a long pass filter or a custom designed bandpass filters to suit your applications.
